Frederick the Great’s allies, 1756-63
by Embleton, G. A., Embleton, S., Reid, Stuart
Summary
The Seven Years War in Europe has been popularly characterised as being fought between stiffly uniformed and disciplined lines of professional soldiers, superbly drilled but lacking the dash and élan of the Napoleonic Wars or the resourcefulness of the contemporary armies in North America. However, in reality, the war in Germany was characterised by an increasing use of "light" troops in conjunction with regular infantry and cavalry as part of an ongoing evolution in military tactics. This book draws attention to these tactical developments and also provides an analysis of the armies.
